This is the category that decides the leader of 24 rock solid departments . This year saw some amazing box office collections as well as lull collections for movie . The success of the movie definitely lies in the hands of these people.There are some debutant directors who made it to the top while some leading directors failed to do so. The 70 mm team ratings are based on visitors liking , reviews, collections and popularity of the movie .

10.Santha Kumar

Arulnidhi was badly in need of a hit to survive in the industry, his find director Santha Kumar confirmed the actor's stay with his debut movie . Mouna Guru was an intriguing thriller . The movie was a sleeper hit that gained popularity through positive word-of-mouth.The director managed to carry the thriller with subtle emotions throughout the movie. In the end the movie was widely accepted by all class of audience.

9.Seenu Ramasamy

Seenu Ramasamy is from Balu Mahendra's stable and he made his mentor proud by making. Thenmerku Paruvakaatru. The movie was critically acclaimed for its ultra realistic rural screenplay. Saranya also won the National Award for playing the role of a angry mother in the film.

8.AL.Vijay

Deiva Thirumagal was a heart-melting tale of a mentally challenged father who tries to retain his daughter with him. Director Vijay had drawn inspiration from hollywood flick 'I am Sam' but Dheivathirumagal was a brilliant film which showed the finest of human emotions.Vijay was able to extract the best act out of versatile actor like Vikram .

7.Saravanan

Engeyum Eppodhum marked the entry of Saravanan as a director and he did surprise everyone with his very first film. The movie had a powerful message for everyone and was backed by powerful performances by all the lead actors.Engeyum Eppodhum was the break through for the Jai who had back to back flops last year.This movie also sparked the controversy between Jai's relationship with Anjali based on their on screen chemistry.

6.Selvaraghavan

Last year Selvaraghavan had only one release Aayrathil Oruvan which got mixed reviews . But this year Selvaraghavan's Mayakkam Enna was a cult film which showcased a man who dares to follow his heart,come what may. The movie was brilliantly directed and the characterization was even better.Mayakkam Enna is considered as the best film from Selva so far.

5.A.Sarkunam

After receiving rave reviews for his debut film Kalavani , Sarkunam came out with this classy period movie with Vimal and Iniya in the lead. The film also stressed the importance of education. His efforts to bring out every details of the small town are laudable.He spotted the best locations to conceptualize his visions that were required for the story. Although the film did not create waves at the box office, the movie was a real gem.

4. Thiagaraja Kumarraajan

A neo-noir format movie in Kollywood cinema ? It was more like a joke before the release of Aaranya Kandam which was strikingly different other stereotyped movies . It showcased crude realities of life. It was a daring attempt from debutant director Thiagarajan Kumararaja and it was well received by the critics.Though , the movie was didn't make much impact in the box office collections . This is one movie that would bring out different experimental movies from our Kollywood directors.

3.K.V.Anand

His directorial debut failed miserably in the box office. But since then K.V.Anand is very careful , Surya starrer Ayan became the biggest grosser last year this time around he carried the same momentum with Jiiva and Ajmal Ko was a runaway hit, thanks to the crisp and fresh screenplay from K.V.Anand. Not to forget , Ko is the all time best for actor Jiiva that also landed him with more offers from top notch directors like Gautham Vasudev Menon and Shankar.

2.Venkat Prabhu

Mankatha was Ajith's 50th film and who would have expected to see him in a negative character? That is Ajith for you and Director Venkat Prabhhu had a powerful role for Ajith. The film was a grand carnival for all Ajith fanatics and emerged out as the biggest entertainer of the year.Mankatha is touted to the biggest grosser of this year , Venkat Prabhu must be credited to experiment such a look and character with Super Star like Ajith.He managed to direct this multi starrer with much care that showcased everyone's best.

1.Vetrimaaran

Just wonder if a director comes with a storyline that deals with rooster fights to a mass hero like Dhanush . Vetrimaaran did just that, and succeed very much with the script of his second movie , Aadukalam . It was the first massive hit of the year and it bagged 6 national awards including Best Director and Best Screenplay for Vetrimaaran.He enjoys a good rapport with Dhanush and used his directorial skills to bring the best out of Dhanush which bagged him a National Award this year. It had an unusual rural screenplay that had 'rooster fights' as main theme and the realistic screenplay instantly clicked with the audience.The film brought out the finest performances from Dhanush, Jayabalan and other actors.
