Vishwaroobham estimated budget: Rs 120 cr

Vishwaroobham is turning out to be the biggest movie ever of Kamal Hassan's career. The estimated budget of the forthcoming multilingual movie is Rs 120 crore that means it will share honours with Rajinikanth's Endhiran, which was also made with the same amount of money.

According to sources, the makers of the movie have already shelled out Rs 55 crore in first two schedules. They have shot 60% of the film in Jordan and Chennai. The remaining parts will be filmed in the US and the UK.

The US and UK schedules last for a month each and both the destinations are costly compared to other places, claims a source. Adding to that the movie will have technical values of international standards and the expenses will obviously reach high.

However, Kamal Hassan's movies like Thevar Magan, Aboorva Sahodargal and Dasavatharam were big budget movies of its times and the forthcoming movie Vishwaroobham would be the new entry to the list.

Vishwaroobham also features Pooja Kumar in the female lead role.

SFG is a short film competition organized by The Sight media and Filmgala. The stage was set to give away SFG awards and the grand celebration of Mankatha 100th day.

The ever cool Mankatha team arrived at the venue around 6.30 in the evening and occupied the elite seats in front of the world class stage at Kotturpuram. With Badava Gopi as the host it was all set to be an exciting few hours. Gopi is not new to Venkat Prabhu as he was the commentator in the movie Chennai 600028.The event was filled with dance shows from various groups which set the stage on fire.

The singing of 'super singer' Sathya Prakash impressed one and all. Venkat Prabhu and company gave away the awards to the winners from SFG 2011. Aravaan faces problems aplenty prior to its release

Though the music of the film Aravaan was launched some time back, there is no trace of the film hitting the screens in the near future. The film has been directed by award-winning director Vasanthabalan and stars Aadhi and Dhansika in lead roles. Bharath and Anjali, who owe their stardom to Balan thanks to his films Veyil and Angaadi Theru in that order, have also played small but significant roles in the film.

Said to have been set some centuries back, the film has been produced by T. Siva of Amma Creations. Though the film's re-recording has been completed and even the 'first copy' has also been made available, no distributor worth his name has so far come forward to acquire the release and distribution rights of the film.

Siva reportedly approached some television channels to acquire the satellite broadcasting rights of the film but he met with nothing but a cold response. The film, which was slated to hit the screens in November itself, has so far found no takers at all. Even as Siva is planning to somehow release the film on Pongal (in January), he might have to contend with the release of the mega-budget film Nanban on that day.

Siva is hoping against hope that sooner or later, he would find out a solution!

"Mayakkam Enna", one of the most awaited films of the year, brings together the celebrity brothers - Selvaraghavan and Dhanush - after a long time. The duo brings a touching story of a young man's dream on screen.

The movie has all ingredients to attract youngsters - friendship, romance, betrayal, heartbreaks and passion to achieve. Selvah has stepped out of his comfort zone to touch upon new elements in life. With an astute performer like Dhanush by his side, Selva has hit the bull's eye.

Karthik (Dhanush) is a freelance photographer who lives life on his own terms and conditions. He is called genius among his group. He works hard and wants to leave a mark as a photographer. He has a special eye for capturing the elements of life and in its best possible moments. Though he does portfolio and weddings assignments, his passion is wildlife photography.

Karthik spends his time with his close friend Sundar (Sundar) and their gang and they have a typical lifestyle that today's youngsters enjoy. One fine day, Sundar comes with Yamini (Richa), his girlfriend.

Unfortuantely, in their first meeting Karthik and Yamini have a bitter experience but they slowly develop some special bond. Though Karthik tries to stay away from the girl since he doesn't want to break his friend's heart, but sequence of events brings them closer.

After some drama Karthik and Yamini get married but their married life starts on a disastrous note as Karthik is insulted and cheated by a renowned photographer.

The man is shattered. The young couple is in turmoil. Yamini tries her best to bring back Karthik's charm and enthusiasm, but he has gone to a stage which is termed as madness by others.

The rest of the movie deals with what happens to the couple's life and Karthik's dream.

Selvaraghavan has presented the story in a sensitive manner and has avoided cliches. The story develops at a natural pace without compromising much on the entertaining aspect.

Selva has the guts to show a girl falling in love with her boyfriend's friend. The romance between the lead pair comes as a surprise. but the developments after that are predictable though executed well.

The way Richa's character shapes up in the second half is appreciable.

Though the movie tends to become slower in the second half, emotion packed climax compensates it. Though the climax is predictable, the way it has been executed could bring tears in eyes of the viewers.

It's Dhanush special. The actor, who surprised one and all winning national award for his performance as a rustic youth in "Aadukalam", plays a contrasting role. As a freelance photographer, who is city-bred, he gives his best. His expressions and body language are the hallmark of the movie.

Newcomer Richa fits the role well. She brings out right emotions. She has proved her worth as a powerful performer.

Cinematographer Ramji and music composer G.V.Prakash should be complimented - they have done what they did in "Ayirathil Oruvan" - complimenting the theme with their work. GVP's back ground score is marvellous.

Selvaraghavan has succeeded in presenting a sensitive and engaging movie. Though the developments towards the climax look dramatic the impact of the climax compensates for it.

Piaa Bajpai is wating

After playing the bubbly Saro in Ko, Piaa Bajpai has not yet signed a single film in Kollywood so far. Reason? Though she has been getting lot of offers in Tamil, she feels that she is being stereotyped. She is getting the same bubbly roles so the actress has decided to wait for the right one. The actress is currently busy with her Mollywood debut Masters which is likely to grace theatres in January 2012. Piaa is also working on a Bollywood movie and is keen on taking up more exciting offers in Hindi and Tamil.

Arya and Maddy trying to emulate Dhanush?

The official promo video of a single from Vettai – Pappappa Pappa Pappappa was released yesterday. The music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja. There is a positive buzz surrounding this song with the leading men, Arya and Madhavan raving about it and the rest of the team promoting it in a big way.

Fans have been comparing the song to Kolaveri Di as the video is a little similar. It remains to be seen whether this track will make the same impact Kolaveri did. Dhanush's song is still sitting pretty on top of the charts and its popularity shows absolutely no sign of waning.

The film has a very large kung fu content which is handled by Shekar Master. "Mugamoodi is the first real superhero subject and cannot be compared to others in this genre made before in the country," said Mysskin, answering a query comparing it to Krish in Hindi. "Its about martial arts and superheros ."

Jiiva disclosed that he was happy playing the first real superhero in Tamil while Pooja Hegde was happy to be debuting in Tamil despite offers from Bollywood and Tollywood.

The shoot for the day consisted of a kung fu competition being shot with real kung fu students and not film extras. The lead cast had taken extensive kung fu training for the film. The film starts rolling from today and will be completed in one straight schedule.
