Aravaan is the ‘film of a lifetime’ for Dhanshika

Dhanshika, who wowed the audience with her stunning looks and sprightly performance in her debut film Peraanmai with Jayam Ravi, is all set to repeat the magic with her much-hyped forthcoming flick Aravaan.

The movie stars Aadhi in the lead with acclaimed director Vasanthabalan wielding the megaphone. It is releasing in Tollywood as Eka Veera and is expected to open up new avenues for the chirpy actress. "It's the film of a lifetime for me! I must admit that I was fortunate to be considered by Vasanthabalan for this significant role despite the fact I was just a beginner," she starts her conversation with DC.

Dhanshika reveals that she was supposed to do Vasanthabalan's award-winning flick Angadi Theru. "I missed out on the great opportunity of working in sir's earlier movie because I had committed to Peraanmai then.

When he started Aravaan, a movie that delves into the lives of Tamilians living in the 18th century, he approached me again and said that I had the sharp features and dusky skin that would exactly match the lead character Vanapechi he had conceived. Of course, I gave an audition! He literally moulded me into the role," she muses. Speaking about her costar Aadhi, she says, "He was very helpful and extremely comfortable to work with!"

Dhanshika recalls her shocking first day of shooting! "I joined the shoot two months after it started. The director comes up and tells me 'we are going for the crucial climax scene'. It was a big jolt to me as I was yet to know the costars and other unit members and wondered how I was going to do the emotional scene. There were 500 junior artistes. But Balan gave me a lot of confidence and after initially stuttering a few times, I got the act right! The director complimented me saying 'you did a great job'."

On her preparation for the bold role she says, "It's a role sans any makeup. I did learn classical dance from Prabhu Deva's assistant Vasanthi. I also perfected the Madurai dialect since I dubbed my own voice."

Is it all a deliberate attempt with an eye on the awards? Dhanshika shrugs. "All of us have worked hard and put in a lot of effort!" The talk of the town is the doe-eyed beauty's erotic movements with Aadhi in a few songs. "Initially I was feeling very uncomfortable when the hot Nila Nila song was being canned. Later, when I realised that after all it is part of the on-screen act, I was cool. Choreographers Gayathri and Kalyan, who composed beautiful shots."

Cheran: Don’t keep Sivaji Ganesan movie titles for new films

"Don't keep Sivaji Ganesan's timeless classic titles for the present crop of movies. Today, anyone can act in films irrespective of whether you have acting talent or not.

So, by keeping the titles of thespian Sivaji Ganesan's films, the present filmmakers are bringing disrespect to the legendary actor. I am an ardent fan of Sivaji sir.

And I have only registered the feelings of millions of Sivaji fans here," remarked actor/filmmaker Cheran at the trailer launch of the digitalised version of 1963 Sivaji Ganesan classic Karnan. Similarly, he also urged Kollywood directors not to use iconic MGR titles.

He challenged K'town filmmakers to remake a Sivaji Ganesan film. "One can remake Billa(s) and Maapillai(s), but it is impossible to remake Sivaji's immortal Tamil movies."

Kamala theatre owner Chidambaram wondered aloud, "When Amitabh Bachchan's statue can make its way to Madame Tussauds' in London, why not Sivaji Ganesan's?" He also said he would contribute `1 lakh for any efforts made to correct this situation.

Sivaji's son, producer Ramkumar, director Panthulu's daughter B.R. Vijayalakshmi, actor Sridhar, singer P. Susheela, musician T.K. Ramamoorthy and Andha Suresh were present on the occasion.

Watch Mithivedi on the net

For the first time ever in the history of Tamil cinema, a film has been released on the net. Mithivedi, which deals with the landmines issue in Sri Lanka, was released on the net on February 17th. According to a press note, movie buffs in US, Canada, Europe, Middle East and Australia can watch the film on the websitewww.mithivedi.com.au on the pay per view rental basis.

Daniel Balaji, who has acted in a number of Tamil films and television serials and known for his performance in Kaakha Kaakha as one of Suriya's friends, has played the menacing Sri Lankan Army Lieutenant and Neelima has played an Eelam Tamil woman trying to save her baby after being stuck on a minefield.

Director Anand Maiyur Srinivas has said, "The global response for our film trailer on YouTube encouraged me to explore a new area of distribution – Online Distribution. So, we tied up with FlickRocket, a German based Online Content Solution Provider, and used this new distribution platform for digital cinema – direct online distribution. Viewers can download and watch the film on a custom made DRM protected FluxPlayer as a pay per day rental. This, I believe, is the future of digital film distribution and so we decided to go global directly to the homes of our target audiences overseas."

Hansika gets a ‘taste’ of fan-affection

Actress Hansika got a taste of what the 'love and affection' of the fans means. The actress announced last year that she didn't want to be referred to as Hansika Motwani and said that mere Hansika would be good. Whether the shortening of name was backed up any numerological advices she might have received is anybody's guess.

Hansika debuted in Tamil films with last year's Engeyum Kaadhal and followed it up with Maappillai. Both the films didn't scorch the box-office and enede up as average grosser. Hanskia, however, had a hit film in Velayudham which released during Deepavali last year. She is presently awaiting the release of her upcoming film Oru Kal Oru Kannadi (OKOK) opposite producer Udhayanidhi and directed by Rajesh.

She was recently in Coimbatore and was caught amid a huge number of fans who were obviously excited at seeing from close quarters their favourite actress. The actress reportedly suffered minor injuries and bruises even a she tried her best to escape fro the clutches of the 'over-affectionate' fans.

While some pulled at her hands, some pinched her at her hips. Hansika, who neve thought she'd get stuck up in such a situation, screamed for help and was rescued in time by the police who appeared in no time and dispersed the crowds. Later, speaking about her experience, Hansika said, "Fans went overboard a bit…thankfully, the police were there to save me. It appears that I shouldn't be going to any venue without knowing about the security arrangements in place!"

Priyamani flying to Bollywood again

Priyamani's debut Bollyoood film in Mani Ratnam's Ravan, the Hindi version of Raavanan, did not give desired results in Hindi film industry. In fact, her second attempt with Ram Gopal Varma's Rakta Chatria also failed to come to fruition. However, the actress is now ready to test her luck again in the B-town.

The glamorous beauty has signed a Bollywood film starring Riteish Deshmukh, the husband of Genelia D'Souza. After doing miniature roles in her her two B-town projects, the actress, for the first time, is playing a full-length female lead character. The movie directed by Chandrakanth Singh will be taking off in the coming days. Other details about the film are under wraps.

Meanwhile, Priyamani is busy in forthcoming Kannada movie Anna Bond, Telugu film Baburao Ninnodala, and Malayalam flick Grandmaster. It is also said that the actress has been approached by another Bollywood filmmaker for his next project but nothing has been finalized yet.
