Launch of Tamil poetry book Aruhan
| Thamizhachi Thangapandian's fourth poetry collection `Aruhan', published by Uyirmmai Publications, was released yesterday (Jan 4, 2012). Prominent Tamil Writer and Playwright Mr. Indira Parthasarathy released the book and renowned Malayalam Writer Mr. Paul Zacharia received the first copy.
Poet Mr. Kalyanji, Mr. S. Tamil Selvan, Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers Assn., Ms. Mini Krishnan, Editor – Translations Oxford University Press (India), Prof. Bharathi Puthiran, Professor, Madras Christian College, graced the occasion by sharing their perspectives. Prof. Parveen Sultana compered the event while social activist & actress Rohini recited some of the poems from the new release. Poet & Publisher Manushyaputran welcomed the gathering. As part of the function, Prof. Ramanujam's Aranga Sri Troupe staged a theatrical performance of Thamizhachi's poems.
Aruhan, her 4th collection is the compilation of poems published in various Tamil literary magazines. Neither intricate nor obscure, these poems do not pronounce any message to the society, but share a deep, poignant, human voice in a simple and lucid style expressing the psyche of a poetic mind. Anxiety, anguish, apprehension and helplessness – are the undercurrent emotions in them. Of 112 pages, the book is priced at Rs. 110. "My poems are from the onlooker's perspective who views the changing scenarios of the society with keen concern for the humankind struggling selfishly wild for survival, with a modern outlook. They expose my anguish and helplessness over the growing disparity and heartlessness of the society losing its innate humaneness, the great quality that distinguishes us from the wild beasts," said Ms. Thamizhachi Thangapandian. A Ph.D. holder in English Literature and an academician, poet Ms.Thamizhachi Thangapandian has great love for her mother tongue Tamil. She is into writing for ten years. Interested in translation, she has translated Thomas Hardy's English poems into Tamil. She has also translated the renowned Tamil writer Prapanjan's short story `Mari Ennum Aattukutti' and some short stories of Srilankan Tamil Migrant writers, into English. As a performer, she is involved in Tamil Nataka Arangam. Five Tamil books – Pecharavam Kaetillaiyo, Kaalamum Kavidhayum, Kaatru Konarndha Kadidhangal, Sol Thodum Dhooram and Paambadam – compilations of her interviews and works, her critiques and perspectives of contemporary litterateurs on her work and three tamil poetry collections – Enchottu Penn, Vanapaechi, Manjanathi – in Tamil, stand to her credit. |
