Surprise call from Kamal Haasan

Vithagan audio launch took place in Chennai recently. Several biggies from the film industry wished the film's lead star Parthiban on the film's success during this event. But what surprised the actor was a call from Kamal Haasan wishing him all the best for the film's success at the box office.

Speaking about this, Parthiban said that it was indeed surprising to get a call from Kamal Haasan. It is a great gesture from a star like Kamal to wish an actor voluntarily, said Parthiban.

Aadhi goes back to Saami

Controversial director Saami might not be in action for a while after the release of his Sindhu Samaveli that launched Amala Paul in Tamil. Saami was supposed to work with Aadhi after Mirugam for a movie titled Sarithram. However, Aadhi's career sort of took off after Eeram and he had no time for Sarithram.

Now that Vasanthabalan's Aravaan is nearing completion, Aadhi seems to have decided to return to Sarithram. Saami will dig out his script and work on it now that Aadhi has confirmed his dates to work with him.

Banupriya is back, for a reason

She was last seen as the quiet, loving mother torn between the loyalties of her husband and son (Nasser and Dhanush) in Pollathavan. Barring a few television shows, Banu was not seen in any movies after Pollathavan. She will be seen reprising the role of a loving mother in another movie titled En Per Kumarasamy with relatively lesser known cast and crew.

En Per Kumarasamy is directed by debut director Rahul and stars Ram and Akshara in the lead. Shoots are scheduled to be held in and around Chennai and Gobi."I agreed to this role since I have confidence in this role," she was quoted as saying.

Simbu’s name is Velan in Osthi

It is known that STR aka Simbu is playing a police officer in 'Osthi' directed by Dharani, which is a remake of Salman Khan's 'Dabangg'. The name of the character the 'Young Superstar' doing in the movie is Velan, who is known as Osthi Velan.

"Though he is a police officer, he has his own set of rules. He is a kind of Robin Hood who is full of energy and enthusiasm," says Simbu, who has fallen in love with his role. "Yes, it is a complete mass character and a first of its kind role for me," he says.

On the director, he says, "Dharani has completed the shoot of Osthi in a record time of 90 days, that too without compromising in any fronts. The film is going to be a sure shot."

Simbu has a regret however. "I don't know who invented six packs. It takes so much of pain to develop one, but I had no other option than doing it for Osthi. A great lover of biriyani, I had to miss it for months together for the sake of building six packs for the film."

Bala chooses Adharva for Eriyum Thanal

Bala's next, which has young hero Adharva in the lead role, is said to be inspired by a popular Malayalam novel, the title of whose Tamil version is 'Eriyum Thanal'. "A popular writer is taking care of script work," sources say.

"The story revolves around a family, especially a father and mother, who undergo certain troubles because of their children. Adharva gets to play a lifetime role, quite like other protagonists of Bala's movies," they add.

The national award winning director is on the lookout for a heroine, sources say and add: "He is also on the verge of completing the remaining members of the cast and crew. An official announcement is expected soon."

GV Prakash Kumar has been roped in by Bala to compose music for the movie. The director's last venture was 'Avan Ivan', which has Vishal and Arya in the role of step-brothers, who are at loggerheads for silly reasons and come together later for a cause.

This has been confirmed by none other than the top actor's younger daughter Soundarya Ashwin, who is closely associated with the project.

"Appa is completely alright. He is fit, fine and brimming with energy. The Superstar is keen to start Rana's shoot and an official announcement will be made very soon," says Soundarya, who is producing the movie in association with Eros International.

Saying that 'Sultan The Warrior', her dream project which has Rajini in the lead, has underwent a major overhaul, the owner of Ocher Studios adds: "KS Ravikumar has taken charge of story and dialogue departments. For the first time in India, we have used Performance Capture technology."

On 'Ra One', the Shahrukh Khan starrer in which Rajini has done a guest appearance, Soundarya says, "It will be a powerful cameo in which appa has played Chitti, a role he did in Enthiran. Shahrukh and others were so happy to have the Superstar on board. So was Rajini."
