Bala’s next film based on a Malayalam novel?

Deviating from his usual style of making films out of his own scripts, it is said that director Bala's upcoming film would be based on a popular Malayalam novel which has been namely Eriyum Thanal, translated by Daniel into Tamil. After the likes of Balu Mahendraa and Bharathiraaja, Bala is a director who never compromises for commercial interests and makes his films in his own, inimitable ways.

After winning the national award for his path-breaking Naan Kadavlul, Bala made Avan Ivan starring actors Vishal and Aarya in never-before seen roles of commoners. The actors too, on their parts, sacrificed the expectations of their fans and submitted themselves fully to Bala's 'treatment' and his style of film-making. As a result, Avan Ivan ended up earning rave reviews for its making and for the performances of both Vishal and Aarya.

Bala's upcoming film, which is as yet untitled, is likely to star young gun Atharva who debuted as hero in Kollywood with last year's Baana Kaathadi opposite Samantha. It is also rumoured in Kollywood that this would be the first time that Bala would be directing a 'family-story', which would be vastly different from the scripts he had handled so far.

The film is reportedly about the struggled by the parents of two kids who toil it out in every possible way to bring up the kids. Bala's idea to rope in Atharva was based on his calculation that a family-story such as the one he has taken up won't be convincing if a popular hero plays the lead role. The film would have music by G.V. Prakash Kumar.

An official announcement about the making of the film is likely to be made shortly.
