After composing music for the Tamil film Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya directed by Gowtham Menon, A R Rahman has not composed music for any Tamil films. Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya was released 2010.

A R Rahman is continuously composing music for the Tamil films in 2012. He is composing music for Kochadaiyaan which has Rajni in the lead role. He is also composing music for Manirathnam's Kadal, Vijay starrer Yohan, Dhanush starrer Mariyaan and Kamal's film to be produced by Aascar Ravichandran. Apart from all these films, he will be composing music for a TV Serial to be directed by Gowtham Menon. Prime Slot has been allotted by Sun TV for this serial. Parthiban is donning the main role in this serial.
