Sunaina goes strong and steady

 

Sunaina, who started off with Kadhalil Vizhundhen followed it up with several films including Arulnidhi's debut flick Vamsam.

Lately the actress was said to have been roped in as the second heroine for Vishal's Samaran.

Now she has signed a movie, Mike Set Pandi with director Rasu Madhuravan opposite Sabarish, who is one film old.
Says Sunaina,

I was flooded with rural roles after Vamsam. I didn't want to get typecast and deliberately turned down many projects.
Thankfully Rasu Madhuravan's film has an urban character and lots of scope for performance, including comedy.'

Vikram’s Thaandavam hit the floors

 

Vikram and AL Vijay's second combo movie Thaandavam was launched on Wednesday (November 30). Saranya Ponvannan, Jagapathi Babu, GV Prakash, Alagappan, Mysskin, Delhi Ganesh and others were present.

Prior to the shooting, the lead actors will take part in photo sessions. UTV's Dhananjayan confirmed the news and said that it will commence shortly. The first look of the film will be released soon after the completion of the initial photo shoots.

Telugu actor Jagapathi Babu is all set to team up with Vikram in his forthcoming bilingual movie Thaandavam. He will be seen in the role of a baddie in the movie directed by AL Vijay. Anushka Shetty and Amy Jackson are the leading ladies of the movie.

The movie brings the successful combination of Deiva Thirumagal – Vikram, Anushka, director AL Vijay and GV Prakash Kumar together. Produced by UTV Motion Pictures, Thaandavam will be shot in Delhi, US and Chennai.

Thaandavam is said to be loosely inspired by Hollywood flick The Bourne Identity. Vikram's character named Shiva will be doing the role of a retrograde amnesia patient, which was played by Matt Damon in the original. While Anushka performs the character of Vikram's wife, Amy Jackson plays the role of his girlfriend.

Vairamuthu pens for Mani Ratnam

 

Noted poet Vairamuthu has tweeted that he has written a "soul stirring song" for Mani Ratnam's next film.

The tweet says the song will be a melody tuned by AR Rahman.

Vairamuthu has blown the lid of secrecy over Mani Ratnam's next project said to be a love story with new faces.

Vairamuthu says the song is a lovely duet drenched in melody and will stand out in the midst of Kuthu and Tanglish numbers.

The buzz is that the film has been titled Pookadai and it stars Gautham, actor Karthik's son and Thulasi daughter of yester year actress Radha.

It is also reported that Arjun would be playing a pivotal role in the film. The shoot ofthe film will kickstart near Thengapattanam in Kanyakumari district by the end of the month.

Karthi & Kajal signs up for Bru

 

Pretty actress Kajal Agarwal has signed up for Bru instant coffee endorsement. Actor Karthi will be seen with Kajal in the ad and already it's being aired in all the channels in the south. The duo has turned out to be good pair with the Tamil film Naan Mahaan Alla later dubbed as Naa Peru Shiva in Telugu, which set the cash registers ringing.

Incidentally, Suriya and Jyothika are the brand ambassadors of its competitor brand Nescafe and Karthi has signed up for Bru locking horns with Suriya. Kajal is currently busy with the Businessman film with Mahesh that will release in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam versions simultaneously and she is also part of Suriya, KV Anand's project Matraan.

Cloud Nine has confirmed Vada Chennai

 

Leading producer Dhyanidhi Alagiri of Cloud Nine has confirmed that he will beproducing the Vetrimaran directed Vada Chennai.

It will be Vetrimaran's next project after the critically acclaimed Aadukalam.

Dhyanidhi Alagiri has tweeted: "The Vetrimaran directed Vada Chennai, pre-production work is going on. Silambarasan will play the protagonist while Rana Dagubatti plays a special prominent role and Andrea has a pivotal role"

Vetrimaran's regular music director GV Prakash will score the music, Velraj will the cameraman, Kishore is the editor and production designer is Jackie.

As the title indicates, Vada Chennai is set in North Madras area. The shoot of the film will start from March 2012.

Karthika thrilled shooting for Annakodiyum Kodiveeranum

 

Call it an irony. After directing actress Radha as heroine for many of his movies, veteran filmmaker Bharathiraja has now cast Radha's daughter Karthika as heroine for his movie Annakodiyum Kodiveeranum.

Says Karthika, 'my mom often used call Bharathiraja as her mentor. Now I too can proudly say that Bharathiraja is my guru. I admire all his movies and grew up watching them. Now to act in his film is a blessing in disguise for me.'

'Though I played a sophisticated urban girl in Kho opposite Jiiva (her first Tamil venture), doing a rural belle in Annakodiyum Kodiveeranum is a ne experience for me. I just do what Bharathiraja wants me to do onscreen. He knows what to extract from me'.

Karthika says, 'I had several offers coming my way after Kho. But I chose to wait and watch. I was keen to do a different film. At such a juncture came Annakodiyum Kodiveeranum. I had no hesitation in accepting the offer once Bharathiraja called me'.

She says, 'I am getting offers in Bollywood. I am listening to few stories. If I comes across an exciting one, I will lap it up'.

Sasikumar’s Porali strikes Tomorrow

Finally the Nadodigal team returns back with their second venture Porali. The film which releases tomorrow(Dec 1) has raised expectations with the stills and trailers released.

Samuthirakani the director remains clam and when asked the reason for his silence, he tells 'let the public do the talking about my film' he smiles.

Sasikumar and Swathy are keeping their fingers crossed since it it their comeback after Subramaniapuram. Also kollywood circles says that Porali may come without much promotions but surely the film will become a huge hit for its content.

So with all these questions whether Samuthrakani's Porali will shine well at the box-office or not will be revealed tomorrow.

Rasu Madhuravan's next is Mic Set Pandi

 

Rasu Madhuravan , who is known for his family oriented scripts like Mayandi Kudumbathar and Muthuku Muthukaga is ready with his next script titled " Mic Set Pandi" . The movie will have FEFSI Vijayan' son Sabarish and Sunaina in the lead roles. Vatsan Chakravathy who was seen in Engeyum Eppodhum is also roped in for a pivotal role that will have equal importance to that of lead role . Mic Set Pandi will go on floors once Sunaina completes Samaran where she shares screen space with Vishal and Trisha.

Jagapathi Babu plays anti-hero to Vikram

 

At a time when the heroes are trying to play safe by being conformists, Jagapathi Babu wants to break new ground. By accepting to play a villain in the Tamil film Thaandavam (which will be simultaneously released in Telugu), Jagapathi has proved that he is a spirited actor with an open mind and possessing a zeal for experimentation.

Jagapathi Babu who recently completed his 100th film is bringing a change in his career by accepting a powerful second hero-cum-villain role in 'Thaandavam'. The film commences with a test shoot on November 30 in Chennai and the full fledged shooting begins in January 2012. The film will be shot in many locations of USA, Delhi and Chennai.

'Thaandavam' has the principal star cast of Chiyaan Vikram, Anushka, Amy Jackson, Jagapathi Babu, Santhanam, Nasser and many others. The film has music by GV Prakash Kumar, lyrics by Na Muthukumar, editing by Anthony and art direction by Nagu. The film is written and directed by AL Vijay and will be released big by UTV Motion Pictures.

'Thaandavam' will be a 2012 summer release.

Sunny Leone is a part of our household now: Mahesh Bhatt

 

This might be Delhi's date with porn star Sunny Leone. Mahesh Bhatt, who enters the "Bigg Boss" house on Wednesday to speak to her about starring in his film "Jism 2″, says that if she agrees, she might be shooting in Delhi.

"Because of its beauty and exotic appeal, Delhi has been my preferred location. And Pooja (Bhatt, his daughter) also prefers Delhi, which is why we've decided to shoot a few portions of "Jism 2″ here," says Bhatt. However, the film won't have DU characters. "The female protagonist will not be a DU student, but a small town girl. So if Sunny accepts the offer, she'll be playing a girl from Himachal, maybe Shimla or Nainital, who shifts to Delhi. The movie is about how she survives in that world and gets into the most bizarre zones. It'll be shot in the city's discotheques, and we'll capture its fast life and the drug scene here. The movie will essentially focus on how the character lives on the edge," he says.

Is he apprehensive about negative reactions from the audience about casting a porn star? "Those who give business to the sex industry also condemn it. The people who ridicule a porn star would not be brave enough to admit that they themselves have an insatiable appetite for porn. Otherwise, how can it become a hundred billion dollar industry? I was 11 or 12 when I learnt about the female anatomy through dirty pictures that made their way to school. But today, kids are introduced to porn much earlier; we know what parents got through," he says, adding, "We are living in the age of test tube babies, wombs on rent and sperm donation. I think the idea of looking down upon a porn star is passe; it needs to be junked into the dustbin of history. The truth is that people watch Sunny every day on a TV show and she is a part of our household now."

And why is he considering Sunny? "Bold entertainers have always caught my imagination because I feel that life is not what it appears to be for them. The struggle they go through is what made me choose Sunny. Beyond the glamour of the porn star, there is her dark, painful journey – that's what I want to explore, provided Sunny allows me to. But the movie will not be her autobiography. Sunny is of Indian origin and looks decent to me, but there is a residue of the struggle which is also visible, and that is true for every entertainer, not just a porn star. If she has shed her clothes and entertained people through porn movies, she has also shed her inhibitions. But to shed your clothes is one thing, and to allow people to access your inner being is something else."
